ALMATY. July 20. KAZINFORM Member of the European Parliament Struan Stevenson came to Kazakhstan for the 14^th time.  The aim of his arrival is to watch the progress of work that has been initiated at the time of making a report for the OSCE during Kazakhstan's chairmanship in 2010.

S. Stevenson raises funds to help residents affected by the nuclear explosions in the Semipalatinsk region. In 2010 he virtually befriended children from Urdzhar school with children of the same age from St. Paul primary school in Glasgow, Scotland. Later, he brought the money collected by Scottish children to their new Kazakh friends for the school opening ceremony in the Urdzhar, for the construction of which he gave additional USD 100 thousand of his own funds.

"I knew about the problems in this region.  But having seen all consequences of the disaster of the Semipalatinsk test site I was really shocked," S. Stevenson said during the press conference, and handed over a check worth USD 9 331 for two children with the leukemia.

"Having prohibited nuclear tests and renounced the nuclear weapon, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev showed example to the whole world. I think other countries should follow the Kazakhstan's example and it will help the world avoid the shocks," S. Stevenson told.
